- when your hair is fragile due to over-processed chemicals, product buildup and styling tools
- just as in dry hair you need to cleanse with a clarifying shampoo and moisturize with a deep conditioner weekly to rid your hair of the damage and buildup it has
- use caution when chemically altering your hair (e.g. color, straightening)
- see your stylist for proper treatments for your hair type
Curl Pattern
Loose
- usually soft large waves of curls; very romantic
- easiest to straighten
- still gets dehydrated and damaged by the heat, but still has more moisture than the other 2 patterns
- becomes curlier the longer your hair gets
- becomes straighter the shorter you cut it
Curly
- classic beautiful bundle of curls
- tight curls, but not kinky
- fine and delicate, needs tender loving care… always
- keep moisturized
- this type is highly prone to dehydration
- tighter when cut short
- looser when the hair is longer
Kinky
- tight tiny ringlets
- most fragile
- the most dry and damaged of the 3 patterns
- when curls are this tight, they’re usually chemically straightened
- believe it or not, curly hair is usually fine.. they may have a lot (making it appear thicker)
- be delicate with fine hair
- use caution when using chemicals
- stick with lightweight products
Coarse
- thick in diameter
- found on straighter hair (e.g. Asians and Native Americans)
- doesn’t damage as easily, but it can still be damaged
Curls and Humidity
- when it comes to curly hairstyles and humidity; when it's hot the humidity is going to win
- do not blow dry or use flat irons because when you step outside in the hot humid climate your hair will frizz up and become curly again so embrace those curls on hot and humid days
- using a firm holding gel or mousse along with a great leave-in moisturizer can leave you with beautiful curls.. most importantly on those humid days
