We'll continue to discuss topics that you may have been wondering how to discuss with your stylist in this hair articles section of the site.
Some of the simple questions we have can be among the hardest to address when you consider the close relationships that you develop with your stylist. Hopefully this section proves to be useful as you continue on your journey to great hair everyday. We're happy to be a part of your hair experience.
I’ve been seeing my stylist for a few years now. She always does the same thing. I want something new ! I show her pictures and tell her what I want, but she still does what she wants. How do I break up with my hairstylist ?
A. This is one of the hardest decisions you’ll ever have to make.. if you can change the relationship to make both of you happy then you should do that.
First, let your stylist know you’re unhappy. Let her know why
Second, tell her what will make you happy… (new hairstyle, color, etc.) I know that sounds cheesy but it can work
Now all you do is see if she follows through.
Did she give you the haircut and hairstyle you’ve been looking for
Did she finally color your hair the way you want and not the way she wants
If so, then you should give her another chance and if not just stop going to her
All in all you’ve tried all you could, but it just isn’t working out. This is when you find a new updated stylist. Someone who’s up for change, when you’re ready, not when they’re ready.
The TRUTH about Professional Products in the Grocery Store
You may have asked yourself, should I buy my products at the salon or wait until I go to the grocery store, because it’s more convenient.
Answer: You should be purchasing all your products from your stylist at the hair salon.
Products bought from the hair salon have a higher concentration of chemicals in their products than what you’ll find in the ones at the grocery store. These products should also be used only as directed.
*Always Remember* Professional products are ONLY guaranteed when they are purchased from a professional stylist at a hair salon.
When purchasing products that have been diversified you never know what you are going to get.
What is diversion ?
Diversion is when professional products are sold and show up in grocery, drug, retail stores and flea markets.
Who does diversion hurt ?
Diversion hurts the consumer, salons, distributors and manufacturers.
When buying products that have been diversified you never know what you’re going to get. The products have more than likely already been tampered with. These products are typically outdated, diluted, discontinued and/or damaged without your knowledge.
Although diversion is not illegal there will be a breach in their contracts.
So you’re wondering, how do the grocery stores get these professional salon products anyway ?
The products are not coming directly from the manufacturers which is an automatic red flag. Wholesalers not affiliated with the salons are selling the products to the grocery stores and as usual no one is asking questions since it’s business and worse yet all about the money and not all the other people and businesses getting hurt in the process by this activity. However, even salons that have been in financial troubles and end up going out of business have been known to sell their inventory to the grocery store as well.
Are the products in your grocery store safe to use ?
Tests have been performed by FOX News in studies that have found that there is enough bacteria to make the user sick enough to require medical attention.
Products that have been tested also have shown that there is evidence to prove that they were either counterfeit or very old.
Consider this study thoroughly and decide whether it’s worth it or not to take the “convenient” route rather than the sensible one. Then again this is your hair and your family members hair that we’re talking about. It would be nice to get to a point where common sense prevails over making or saving a buck.
Is there a price difference ?
The professional products you purchase at the grocery store is usually the same price if not more. However once again, you’re not even getting the real products and hence you’re wasting your money.. so remember that the next time you’re spending your money.
Stylists have been trained, certified and have a license in all hair types to give you what’s best for your hair. It is to your benefit to use their expertise to help you and your family when it comes to working with professional products.
The “Black Market” is the Black Market no matter what is being sold. Consider this….. you are supporting the black market and risking you and your families well being every time you purchase products at the grocery store.
Getting green hair is one of the most disastrous and time consuming annoyances of them all.
There are 3 major causes of “green hair”
(1) Swimming
(2) Hair color
(3) Hard (well) water
Continue reading to see the “why” and “solution” to the mystery behind green hair…
(1) Swimming – Your hair is like a sponge... when you get into the pool and dip your head into the water it soaks up the chlorine and over time ends up giving your hair a green cast. If your hair is blonde you will have green hair. The green hair develops from exposure to chlorine and is related to the hard metals found in the water.
(a.) Solution
- If your hair is already green use Paul Mitchell’s shampoo 3… it removes chlorine and impurities keeping the hair healthy and moisturized
- To keep the green from coming back, you need to wet your hair with fresh water in the sink, shower or use a water bottle. Then apply a little conditioner to coat the hair shaft. If you use a water bottle put conditioner in it, this will put a barrier on the hair not allowing anything else to soak up.
-Spray a leave in conditioner in your hair before going swimming
- You could try wearing a swimmers cap
(2) Hair Color – from home color to over-processed hair, if you have blonde hair do not color your hair without seeing your stylist... if your hair is over-processed and/or damaged you have a higher risk of it turning green.. You will know it's damaged or over-processed because it will be very dry, brittle and resemble cotton candy (NOT GOOD!) Blondes are more than likely to have green hair quicker than brunettes.
(b.) Solution
- I always recommend seeing your stylist in these situations
(3) Hard (Well) Water – with the high amount of copper, nickel and other chemicals found in your hard water, you’re bound to get copper or a green tint…
(c.) Solution
If you can, get a water softener, if that’s not possible there are filters for the shower head at reasonable prices. Purple/blue shampoo for blondes and grey (like shimmer lights at Sally’s) are also another remedy to try to remove the green.
Other removal methods:
a) Baking Soda mixed with regular shampoo making a paste. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes then rinse in cold water and condition.
b) Malibu treatment, you’ll need to go to the salon for this treatment.
c) Lemon juice - leave in the hair for at least 15 minutes before rinsing. Then shampoo and condition as usual.
d) Ultra Swim Shampoo
e) Aspirin – put 6 to 10 aspirin into a glass of water and allow it to dissolve, saturate you hair with the aspirin mixture, let it sit about 15 minutes, rinse, shampoo and condition as usual.
f) Vinegar – Apply to the hair and allow to sit 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse, shampoo and condition as usual. Although leaving the conditioner on about 15 minutes. The vinegar will be drying on the hair.
Now that you have some information on what causes green hair and how to handle it, you can relax and know what to do the next time it happens to you or someone you know.
My stylist is booked, but I need to get in today. What should I do ?
Make sure to ask the receptionist if you can speak to your stylist.
Talk about what you should do
If they cannot get you in today and you can’t wait until the next day ask them to refer you to another stylist that they trust.. someone that will do your hair just as good as they would have.
A good recommendation for the future is to make your hair appointments before you leave.
You can schedule as many as you need to.. whether it’s a month, a year ahead or appointment at a time…
Either way, if you do this.. you won’t have to scramble around at the last minute worrying if you can get in… it’s not worth it. So in the end make sure to make your appointments ahead of time and save yourself the hassle and frustration.
The Sedu hairstyle is simple, very straight, shiny and silky looking hair. This hairstyle is very easy to achieve to those who already have straight hair and is possible for those who have very curly hair.
How do I get the Sedu Hairstyle ?
You get this hairstyle by using a ceramic flat iron. You don’t need a “specific SEDU flat iron”
The term “Sedu” is really a brand of flat iron. However this hairstyle can be created by using any ceramic flat iron.
The “Sedu” term happened to be an easier way of describing very straight hair. Sedu is the popular term that people associate with what Sedu really is.
Before the flat iron it was very difficult for people who had curly hair to obtain straight hair.
Chemical straightening used to be the only way for most with curly hair to get it this straight.
The flat iron has reduced the amount of money spent on chemical straighteners. Sedu hairstyles are much cheaper than chemical straighteners. You’re still able to achieve other hairstyles without permanently being straight all the time.
Now you can achieve straight hair in half the time..
No more standing in front of the mirror with a blow dryer and round brush to get the straight hair you want.
Other considerations:
Another nice thing about the Sedu hairstyle is that is one of the most inexpensive ways to do your hair as this mentioned earlier is something that is very easy to achieve. Then again if you’re just afraid of doing it wrong then by all means speak to your stylist about achieving the Sedu hairstyle.
“Original” Chi and GHD are among the best ceramic flat irons that you can use alongside the Sedu flat iron if you choose to spend the money on one to achieve the Sedu hairstyle.
If you’re going to spend the time and energy to achieve the Sedu hairstyle don’t waste your money on a cheap ceramic alternative that is going to ruin your hair in the end. Spend the extra money and buy a good professional grade ceramic flat iron.
IMPORTANT
ALL IRONS will damage your hair when used “DAILY”… but buy buying professional grade ceramic irons will reduce the possibility of damaging your hair even more. Professional irons have the technology to reduce maximum damage to your hair.
