hair vitamins or additives question

I've seen the commercials on TV for pills which will supposedly help strengthen or beautify your hair and nails. My question is this - do these pills actually achieve anything for hair ?

I'm not sure if the ones on tv work, but vitamins in general and eating healthy does strengthen your hair and nails. Better yet vitamins and eating healthy is great for you hair, skin and nails.. Also staying hydrated helps.
