The fade is the haircut, but what do you need to do to get that texture? How do you get the curls?

It's a longer version of a fade. The sides are slightly shorter than the top. The top is rounded off.
If you're doing it yourself, the sides look like you'd use a #3 clipper guard up to the temples. The top looks like it would be #5 or #6 clipper guard. To blend the two use a #4 clipper guard, angle out as you blend to get the rounded effect.
I would still recommend that you visit a barber shop to get the style and cut that you want as this is something that can easily be cut the wrong way. As far as outlining your hair, it is something that is not easily duplicated by performing this in front of the mirror.
